Steve Haley from GBR wins Interglide 2022
Interglide 2022 Top Three Places
3rd Place Cengiz Philcox - 1st Place Steve Haley - 2nd Place Romain Gallet
The excellent flying site at Hamilton Farm Airstrip near Ashford was again the venue for Interglide 2022 and, once again, the weather was perfect with constant sunshine and light winds. The after effects of Covid once again reduced the entry from overseas but we were pleased to welcome back some pilots from France and one from Zimbabwe who arrived at the airfield on his bike with models on his back after catching the train from London!
Interglide 2022 Pilots
Flying was run over two days with six rounds on Saturday followed by another three on Sunday morning and a three round fly off in the afternoon. Conditions were very challenging with strong lift available but also strong sink for the unlucky so a slot where everyone flew the full 10 minutes could be followed by pilots struggling to make 5 minutes. In the evening our host, Richard Thomas, gave us a fine display of aerobatics in his Skybolt biplane which made flying a glider look very easy.

The fly off provided an interesting display of tactics as pilots tried to maximise their scores by low launching. Sometimes it worked but sometimes it didn’t and the result was quite a few low scores or even zeros as they struggled to reach the landing circle. Steve Haley continued his usual excellent form and won the fly off but was closely followed by Romain Gallet the younger brother of previous winner Adrien. Romain is only 11 years old having flown his first F5J Eurotour at Interglide 2019 at the age of only 8! A well-deserved third place went to Cengiz Philcox who flew consistently well throughout the weekend.

Many thanks to our sponsors Flightech who provided some superb prizes and the Eurotour organisers for donating two servos in a prize draw won by Ian Duff.

Roll on Interglide 2023 when we hope that Covid will be well behind us and we can again welcome many more of our overseas friends.
